Thousend times thanks!

To all the followers of the blog, to anyone who has been supportive of Frank or us in the last months and especially after his untimely death we want to say thanks from the bottom of our hearts. In the week after his passing we received so much warmth, stories, care and love, hardly describable. To us it was a very precious and valuable week and it was so good to have Frank at home where so many of his friends could visit him. And all the help, stories and info shared in that week led to a beautiful goodbye ceremony on a beautiful sunny autumn day. For those of you who could not attend, or those of you who wish to reread the funeral speeches, we publice them here (in dutch and english) with some pictures in grateful memory of, and tributed to Frank. We will miss him dearly, thanks for being with him and with us, one way or another,

On behalf of my family and his closest friends, Esther

Here I stand!

Hmmm... the title is not completely correct, it's more Here I lay but that is not a game in Frank's collection.

Yesterday Rense and I visited Frank and during the visit we discussed a few things such as the munchkin card on his board holding postcards. There is only one person that could have put it up there. And Frank confirmed his name. (We know you ;-) For those interested in munchkin cards, this is the text on it:

The fandom manice

Level 4

- 3 against nerds, geeks, dorks

Bad stuff: You cannot run or hide... You will have to bear their infavorable unsufferable "good will"

Innumarable treasures!

For all of you who don't know munchkin, let me tell you that Frank and the person he got it from were once, a few years back, competing for the most signed games/books from the author of this game. I don't know if the competition is already closed and who won.

In the light of this discussion the subject changed to roomnumbers and nametags. (For the good readers this information will narrow down the name of the person who gave that munchkin card down to two. ;-) And Rense said that it is a shame that Frank's name is not on the sign next to the door. So troops, or better to say me, was send out to get a pen/pencil, anything to write with. I got one. Next thing Rense wrote the name of Frank on the sign next to the door. I should have done that way long time before, showing Rense is a son of a.... General! (whatever did you think?)

So visitors no longer have to search in vane to find Franks room.

3 opmerkingen:

  1. Just adding a bit of mystery...
    It's UNSUFFERABLE not infavorable...
AND the person who brought it is indeed the one you think, but the one who thought of it and actually made it is his daughter... who is also infected with the bug... and has known Frank most of her life! Keep watching... there is more to come! ;)

  2. Good, because there is still way too much open space on his board for postcards.

I should start an action to put up new wallpaper at Kalorama. Only postcards to Frank are allowed to decorate the walls in his room and it definitly needs redecorating.

  3. The Munchkin inside humor is Frank's favorite, and absolutely not understandable for outsiders (such as me in this respect). But what the hack, if it helps him it's great. And Rense, great action putting the name tag on the door (especially today, when his room mate has returned from the hospital, but has vanished from the door tag ;-) we'll make sure everyone will know Frank is there.
When we visitied him tonight, he was alert and awake and told is his whereabouts from today. He pictured the physiotherapy treatment as follows: "you would have laughed yourself to the brim, if you had seen me today, rolling over using my arm and leg" it must have been very funny. But what we noticed was that he was more alert to his neglected side, he turned his head much more easily right and left and he was more active in moving in his bed. And on top of that he told us that he had a bath this morning including a jacuzzi. So within his limits as the result of the devestating storm in his head, this is the kind of care you would favour to anyone but we're especially greatful that Frank recieves it and enjoys it. He's looking forward to the Ipad, I showed him the possibility of an dictation app which could be very useful for him, all with one finger. Donations are really starting to rise, it's wonderful that so many people are committed to and willing to help Frank. He also has a lot of visitors which really caries him through the day. So in the end the feeling is that Frank is in the right place in Kalorama, he improves day by day, is supported by a huge group of people, and although the fact still remains very sad, things are going well and that is something to be thankful for.
